Product Description

Wire wrapped screen pipe is one of the most popular sand control equipment with long history due to its keystone structure slot and fine sand control accuracy. It is widely applied in gravel pack operations.

A wire wrapped screen, also known as a wedge wire screen, is a type of filtration device that consists of a cylindrical or rectangular frame with V-shaped wire profiles welded onto support rods. The V-shaped wires form a continuous slot opening that allows liquids and gases to pass through while retaining solids or other particles. Wire wrapped screens are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, water treatment, food and beverage, and mining.

The wire wrapped screen includes three parts, basepipe (perforated or slotted), wire shroud (including wires and ribs) , welding rings.

For water wells, wire shroud without based is used, called Johnson Screen Pipe.

According to formation medium particle size, we will propose wire wrapped screen with different slot widths.

What is gravel packing?

Gravel packing is a sand control technique used in oil and gas wells to prevent sand and other solids from entering the wellbore. It involves placing a filter (gravel) between the formation and the wellbore that allows the flow of fluids while preventing the passage of sand or other particles.

The process typically involves pumping a slurry of gravel and carrier fluid (such as water or drilling mud) downhole through a screen or completion assembly. The gravel settles around the screen and forms a permeable pack that filters out sand and other particles while allowing hydrocarbons or fluids to flow into the wellbore.

Gravel packing is commonly used in unconsolidated or loosely consolidated formations, where sand production can lead to equipment failure, reduced production rates, and increased operating costs. The success of gravel packing depends on several factors, including selecting the appropriate gravel size, screen design, and placement techniques, which are typically determined based on the specific well conditions and sand control objectives.

The wire wrapped screen is usually used for gravel packing with cereamic gravel and quartz gravel.

The choice between ceramic gravel and quartz gravel for gravel packing depends on several factors, including the well conditions and sand control objectives. Here are some general comparisons:

  1. Strength and Durability: Ceramic gravel is generally stronger and more durable than quartz gravel, which can help to prevent gravel breakdown and sand production over time.

  2. Chemical Compatibility: Ceramic gravel is chemically inert and resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for use in wells with acidic or corrosive fluids. Quartz gravel may not be suitable in such environments.

  3. Cost: Ceramic gravel is typically more expensive than quartz gravel.

  4. Particle Size: The particle size of ceramic gravel is usually smaller than that of quartz gravel. This can help to create a more uniform and effective gravel pack.

  5. Availability: Quartz gravel is more widely available than ceramic gravel.

Both ceramic and quartz gravel can be effective for gravel packing, but the selection should be based on the specific well conditions and sand control objectives. You are welcome to contact the qualified engineer or sand control specialist to get the best option for a particular well.
